What is the P90X3 Workout?
Like Insanity, P90X3 is one of my favorite at home workouts and for good reason I’ve followed the P90X3 Workout schedule many times now. Tony Horton combines plyo, weight lifting, cardio and yoga moves in a less intense manner than I was used to, but man does it work.
I could try to write the copy for this, but I read a much better version on Beachbody.
“Get ripped in 30 minutes a day, using 16 extreme workouts based on Tony Horton’s breakthrough Muscle Acceleration system. Now you’ll always have the time to work out—and you can burn fat and build lean muscle like never before.”
I started my home workout life with Insanity, which was/is an awesome cardio workout. I lost weight, got my butt kicked, and had a blast sweating every morning. I got completely used to the energy of Shaun T, his yells to push it, the constant movement, longing for a water break and finding myself on the floor not moving as the TV commanded at the end of each workout.
So when I started P90X3 I was completely unprepared by the slower pace, the sometimes off key humor, and introductions of the cast at the beginning of each workout. I can honestly say that my first few times I was a little annoyed by the pace and the jokes. I just needed to warm up to Tony, as now, after doing P90X3 a few times, I absolutely love these routines. Even when not doing the 90 days I’ll put one on, like ‘The Challenge’, to really push myself.
I found that I enjoyed the weight exercises, the pullups, and the different moves. I even started to like the humor. Tony Horton comes off very genuine, and his attitude that you don’t have to be perfect when pushing out that last rep, makes me want to try harder.
Who Is P90X3 For?
While I came into this workout with a good cardio background, and I did go to the gym to “lift”, I was not in Tony shape. The man is 55 in these videos, and I felt like the old man in comparison. As Tony says, and I might be paraphrasing “Aging is for idiots”.
There is a modifier in each workout, so if you don’t feel you can do the full moves, you have a backup, and I know I would alternate when things got tough, or I got winded. I would often think I could keep up with the non-modifiers, only to realize I should have started slower as I would burn out.
So for those that are just starting out, the pace and modifier makes this workout a good option. Plus it’s only 30 minutes, which I think is a great number for a workout.

What is the P90X3 Workout Schedule and Workout Calendar?
Classic – This is the original 90 day plan crafted by Tony Horton, and it’s the one most people start with, and the one I’d recommend starting with.
Lean – If you’ve got a few extra pounds you’d like to melt away, you can choose this option which puts more cardio in the overall schedule
Mass – Mass is the opposite of Lean, if you are looking for more muscle gain, and bulk, follow this schedule. It will focus more on workouts that focus weights, and less on cardio.
Doubles – For those crazies that feel a single workout a day isn’t enough, this is the workout for you. Two P90X3 workouts a day!
Elite – For those who might consider themselves elite athletes, or those that just want to push it, check out this schedule
What is the P90X3 Meal Plan?
A lot of people think that in order to lose weight they need to workout, A Lot, and while if you’ve been leading a sedentary life, or maybe switching to a more intense workout, you will see a drop in weight. But after a while you will find that you will hit a plateau, and the weight will not continue to fall, or you might find that you are gaining weight!
Fear not, you just need to take a look at what you are eating. You’ve already taken the amazing first step of working out, do you really want to waste those 300 burned calories on a piece of chocolate cake? Well, OK, I’m sure it looks great and will taste amazing while you are eating it, but you are likely working out hard, lets just try to see results. Once you are at a point where you feel great, then every once in a while you can have a piece of cake.
So how does P90X3 help me eat better? Tony will lay out what healthy eating looks like, from 5 meals a day, to portion control, essentially the basics. He won’t give you a fad diet to try, he won’t tell you to eliminate carbs, or eat like a caveman. What he will tell you is to moderate your consumption, to eat a variety of foods, and to use common sense. A cheeseburger a day adds up, so just pay attention to what you put in your body.
With P90X3 it’s all about macro-nutrients, meaning looking at the basics of Protein, Carbs, and Fats. Yes, you need all three! It’s important to eat enough food during the day so you don’t pig out later, and it’s important to have the right amount of each group, so you aren’t craving the others.
